Lisa Cantara began at Stony Brook as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in 1997, was elevated to Associate Athletic Trainer in 2004, and during the summer of 2007, was promoted to the position of Head Athletic Trainer. She received her bachelor's degree in Physical Education/Athletic Training from Central Connecticut State University. While at CCSU, Cantara also competed for four years on the Division I swim team. The highlight of her career was earning the "Maynette Reid Crothers Scholarship" her Junior Year. To complete her degree, she was an Athletic Training Intern at Harvard University. Cantara received her master's degree in Health Care Administration from the University of New Haven, while working in the Athletic Training Room as a Graduate Assistant. Cantara has been an NATABOC certified athletic trainer since 1995. She was co-chairperson and a presenter for the "Seawolves Inaugural Sports Medicine Symposium", the "Empire State Games/New York State Athletic Trainers Sports Medicine Symposium" and chairperson for the "NYSATA Conference" 2003 through 2006. In 1999, she became a NYS certified athletic trainer and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Cantara is an Adjunct Professor and Approved Clinical Instructor in the Athletic Training Education Program. In April 2004, Cantara received the SUNY Chancellor "Meritorious Service Citation", and in May 2004, received the "Outstanding Member Award" from NYSATA for performing a life-saving action during the spring semester. In April 2004 & 2005, Cantara was contracted by the WNBA and May 2007 by MLL, to provide Athletic Training Services to elite athletes during their pre-draft camps. During July 2004, 2005 & 2007, Cantara was selected to travel overseas and to provide athletic training services for a New Jersey Select Girl's soccer team who practiced and competed on the International level. At Stony Brook, Cantara's administrative responsibilities include supervision of staff and overall management of the sports medicine operation. Cantara's primary sport assignments are Men's Soccer and Men's Basketball and she oversees Tennis.
