Courtney Sanfelippo
Director of Student-Athlete Development

Courtney Sanfelippo was named the Director of Student-Athlete Development in July of 2005. Prior to that, Sanfelippo served as as academic advisor in 2003 and then as the interim director for the 2004-05 academic year.

Since assuming the role of interim director in June of 2004, she has been responsible for the development, assessment and implementation of all academic advising, personal and career services as they relate to institutional and NCAA requirements. She has direct oversight for all academic affairs regarding the men’s basketball, football, men’s lacrosse and softball teams while providing student-athletes, coaches and athletics administration with detailed academic progress reports. She also assisted in the development of a comprehensive program to evaluate continuing eligibility.

During her first year, her efforts produced outstanding results as the 2004-05 academic year saw Stony Brook’s student-athletes compile an overall grade-point average of 2.98 and 157 of them were named to the America East honor roll, both of which were department bests since Stony Brook joined the America East in 2001.

Sanfelippo will oversee the new Student-Athlete Development Center which will accommodate up to 400 student-athletes in a space that will have a state-of-the-art computer lab, a study hall/multipurpose function room, a career resource/library area and a private tutor room.

Prior to Stony Brook she spent the previous three years at her alma mater, Seton Hall University. While completing her master’s degree at the school, Sanfelippo served as a graduate assistant in Academic Support Services. In this role, she coordinated study hall for student-athletes, tutored in several areas including biology, chemistry, math and physics and facilitated the Pen Pal Project, a service that connects athletes with area youth.

Sanfelippo then became the Assistant Director for Academic Support where she provided academic and career advisement for over 60 student-athletes, served as a co-advisor for the Student-Athlete Mentor program and designed Life Skills workshops, while continuing to tutor in various subjects.

During her time at Seton Hall, Sanfelippo taught several courses as an adjunct professor in the mathematics department, adjunct faculty member in the College of Education and Human Services and mentor and instructor for Freshman Studies. She served as the Chair of Student Workshops and the Chair of Social Activities at new student orientation in 2002 and 2003, respectively, while also participating on the physical therapy/athletic training advisory committee.

A native of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Sanfelippo earned her B.S. in biology, magna cum laude, in 2000, and her master’s of secondary education, summa cum laude, in 2002.


Lauren Brown
Academic Advisor

Lauren Brown was named an academic advisor at Stony Brook in August of 2004. Brown serves as an advisor for Stony Brook baseball, women's lacrosse, volleyball and men's and women's soccer.

Brown arrived at Stony Brook after spending a year as a graduate assistant for operations and student services at Cornell University. While at Cornell, Brown had responsibilities in academic advising, Champs/Life Skills and the tutoring program, as well as game day management for men's basketball, volleyball, track, women's soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse.

Prior to her time at Cornell, Brown served as a marketing intern and an administrative fellow at Villanova University. At Villanova, she assisted in several areas of the athletic department, including student services, compliance, marketing and promotions.

A 2001 graduate of Penn State University with a bachelor's in marketing, Brown went on to earn her master's in sport and recreation administration from Temple University in August of 2004.


Lindsay Arnold
Coordinator of Student-Athlete Development/Compliance

Lindsay Arnold was named the coordinator of student-athlete development and compliance at Stony Brook in November of 2004. Arnold serves as an academic advisor for women's basketball and men's and women's swimming and diving, tennis and track and field, while assisting with compliance for Stony Brook's 20 Division I sports.

Arnold joined the Stony Brook staff as the assistant director of compliance in the summer of 2003 after spending three years at Molloy College, where she served as assistant director of athletics/senior woman administrator from 2000-01 and 2002-03 and interim director of athletics for the 2001-02 school year. In those roles, Arnold was responsible for compliance, scheduling, budget management and supervising coaches and administrators.

She also spent year as an intern/manager at the AT&T Fitness Center and one as a personal trainer/fitness consultant at the Omni Athletic Club.

Arnold was a three-year member of the women's basketball team at Keene State, while serving as team captain as a junior. She graduated from Keene State in 1999 with a bachelors degree in physical education/health fitness and an associates degree in chemical dependency. She then went on to earn her masters in physical education/sports management from Adelphi in 2002.

Arnold resides in Lake Grove, N.Y
