Stony Brook Track and Field Competes at NYU Last Chance Meet

Feb. 29, 2008

New York, N.Y. - Stony Brook's track and field teams were at The Armory in New York City Friday, competing in the NYU Last Chance Meet. This meet was the final opportunity for the Seawolves to lower their qualifying times before the ECAC/IC4A and NCAA Championships.

Freshman Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) claimed first-place in the mile, finishing in 4:46.50, just a few tenths of a second slower than the school-record time she posted earlier this month at the Valentine Invitational. Sophomores Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) and Stephanie Vos (Aplachin, N.Y.) used this meet to compete in races they had yet to run this season. Hampson finished second in the 3,000-meter with an ECAC qualifying time of 9:48.53, while Vos just missed qualifying in the 800-meter in which she placed eighth with a time of 2:18.64.

On the men's side, senior Melvin Genao (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) improved upon his previous season-best in the 400-meter, taking 38th place with a time of 49.95.

The Seawolves' track and field teams will be action next weekend when they travel to Boston, Mass for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
