Walnut, Calif. - Senior Dana Hastie (Wellington, New Zealand) smashed the previous Stony Brook record in the 10,000-meter when she finished in a time of 34:14.53 Friday at the Mount SAC Relays.

Hastie's time is almost two minutes faster than the previous record which was set by Barbara Gubbins in 1985.

Her time was under the NCAA Provisional qualifying time and places her inside the top 20 times in the country, which gives her a strong chance of being selected for the NCAA Championships in June.

Stony Brook's track and field team will be in action on Thursday at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn.
