Sophomore Lucy Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) finished sixth in her heat of the women's 1,500-meter preliminary race at the NCAA Outdoor Championship in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Thursday night, but posted a fast enough qualifying time to advance to the finals on Saturday afternoon. She completed the race in 4:16.11, seizing the 12th and final qualifying spot. Van Dalen is the first student-athlete in school history to qualify for a NCAA Outdoor Championship final. This comes on the heels of becoming the first student-athlete to ever compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship earlier this year. [+]
