Kings Park, N.Y. - Despite two first-place finishes, the Stony Brook cross country team finished third at the Stony Brook Invitational at Sunken Meadow State Park on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Jenny Payne won the 5K in a time of 19:58, while Tara Sullivan finished third with a time of 20:22. The women's team finished with 45 points, placing them third behind Hofstra (37 points) and East Stroudsburg (40 points).

On the men's side, senior Mike Thompson placed first in the 5K in 16:57. Dave de Wolfe's time of 17:19 was good for fourth. East Stroudsberg won the men's competition with 36 points, while Hofstra was second with 37. Stony Brook's 54 points gave them third place.

The cross country team next competes at the METS Championships on Oct. 6.
