Women's Cross Country Takes Fourth at Notre Dame Invitational

South Bend, Ind. - Stony Brook University's women's cross country team finished fourth at the Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon. Sophomore Holly Van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) paced the Seawolves, finishing 20th in a time of 17:08. Stony Brook's men's team was also in action Friday, competing in the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Penn. Sophomore Tim Hodge (Tawa, New Zealand) had the top finish for the men, crossing 11th in 24:07.

Sophomore Lucy van Dalen (Wanganui, New Zealand) was the next Seawolf to cross, finishing 22nd (17:08). Junior Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) followed right behind in 23rd. Freshman Hayley Green (Wellington, New Zealand) took 35th (17:18) and junior Laura Huet (Carrickmines, Ireland) crossed 56th (17:35). The women's team beat eight squads that are currently ranked in the top 30 in the country, including the two teams that are ranked above them in the Northeast Region, Providence and Boston College.

Stony Brook had two other members of the men's team post top-50 finishes at the Paul Short Invitational. Juniors Alex Felce (Stroud, England) crossed 27th (24:24) and Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) took 50th (24:43). Overall, the men finished 19th out of 45 teams, placing in front of conference and regional rivals Binghamton and Marist.
 

 

The cross country team's next meet is the Pre-NCAA Meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
