Oakdale, N.Y. - Jenny Payne won the 5K and Dave deWolfe was runner-up in the 8K to lead the Stony Brook cross country team at the St. John's Invitational on Sunday. The women's team won the event while the men came in second.

Payne finished the race in 18:14, while freshman Laura Hixson came in third with a time of 18:38. Fordham finished second while St. John's finished third overall.

For the men, it was deWolfe who missed the top spot by just two seconds, coming in second place in the 8K with a time of 25:23. Mike Thompson finished third in 26:17.

As a team, the men missed winning the title by just four points behind Fordham. St. John's came in third.
