Men's Cross Country Wins Central Connecticut Mini-Meet; Women Finish Third

New Britain, CT. - Sophomore Alex Felce (Stroud, England) earned the first victory of his career, one of four Stony Brook runners to finish in the top five, to lead the Seawolves men's cross country team to a win at the Central Connecticut Mini-Meet on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Carolina Cortes (North Woodmere, N.Y.) placed third for the women's team who finished third among nine teams at the same meet. Felce finished the men's 5K in 15:01, two seconds ahead of senior Shaun Krawitz (Auckland, New Zealand). Freshman Tim Hodge (Wellington, New Zealand) followed close behind in third (15:18) while sophomore Daire Bermingham (Portmarnock, Ireland) took fifth with a time of 15:21. Senior Zach Tyerman (Seattle, Wash.) placed ninth for the Seawolves at 15:40. Stony Brook finished first among nine teams, including UConn, UNH and Hartford. Cortes finished the women's two-mile race in 11:36, just five seconds behind the winner. Freshman Lisa Voltaire placed 16th (11:59) for the Seawolves while Freshman Leanne Skrabacz (West Seneca, N.Y.) came in 24th with a time of 12:14. Stony Brook finished ahead of conference foe Hartford while finishing just behind UConn and UNH.
The Seawolves will return to action next Saturday, as they will host the 2007 America East Cross Country Championships.
