Men's & Women's Cross Country Both Finish Third at 2004 America East Championships

Durham, N.H. - The Stony Brook men's and women's cross country teams both picked up third place finishes at the 2004 America East Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon. Leonora Joy was second overall for the women, while Dale Summerville finished third for the men.

On the women's side, the Seawolves were third with 93 points behind only Boston University (first, 27 points) and New Hampshire (third, 85 points). Victoria Botticelli of Boston University won the women's individual title in 17:22.50.

Joy finished second in 17:31.80 for the 5,000-meter course, and was followed by Sarah Beresford in 14th in 18:20.80, Dana Hastie in 17th in 18:28.70, Sarah Herbert in 28th in 18:44.00 and Kerry Salzano in 32nd in 18:57.80.

On the men's side, Stony Brook was third with 71 points behind Maine (first, 28 points) and New Hampshire (second, 58 points). The third place finish was the highest for the Seawolves since they joined America East. Anthony Traux of New Hampshire picked up the men's individual title in 24:27.00.

Summerville finished third in 24:32.20 for the 8,000-meter course, and was followed by Brian Farrell in 11th in 25:02.00, Matthew Almond in 12th in 25:03.00, Shawn Krawitz in 15th in 25:13.60 and Andrew Sinnott in 31st in 26:12.80.

The Seawolves are back in action on November 11th when they compete in the NCAA Northeast Regional.
