Hastie, Krawitz to Compete in the World Cross Country Championships

Feb. 25, 2004

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook freshmen Dana Hastie and Shaun Krawitz have been selected to represent their home country of New Zealand in the World Cross Country Championships in Brussels, Belgium, on March 20 and 21. They both will compete in the Junior (under 19) Championships with the women running 6,000-meters and the men competing in the 8,000-meters.

Hastie, a native of Wellington, won the New Zealand Junior Championships back in June, while her 9.56.13 performance in the 3,000-meters at the Armory Collegiate Invitational on February 13 confirmed her fitness and earned her spot on the team.

Krawitz, a native of Auckland, finished second in the Junior Championships, while his personal best time of 8:36.42 in the 3,000-meters at the Metropolitan Championships was enough to convince the selectors of his fitness and earn him a place on the team.
