Amy Gosztyla Named Assistant Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track Coach

March 18, 2005

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Amy Gosztyla has been named assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at Stony Brook, head coach Andy Ronan announced on Friday. Gosztyla arrives at Stony Brook after spending one season as a graduate assistant coach with the women's track and field team at the University of New Hampshire.

"We are excited to have Amy join the Stony Brook family," said Ronan. "She is going to be a great asset to our program. Her success on and off the track at the University of New Hampshire is going to help our program attract and develop quality student-athletes here at Stony Brook."

As a graduate assistant at UNH, Gosztyla assisted with creating and implementing training programs for middle and long distance runners, while also assisting with day-to-day responsibilities such as practice and competition schedules, meet entries, recruiting, compliance and eligibility.

Gosztyla, who spent a summer as a counselor and nutrition lecturer at Nike High Performance Running Camps in Vermont and North Carolina, also has experience coordinating high school indoor track meets and officiating high school league and state indoor and outdoor track meets.

A four-time America East all-conference selection in cross country, Gosztyla earned All-Northeast Region accolades as a junior in 1999. A six-time America East champion in indoor and outdoor track, Gosztyla holds UNH school records in the indoor mile, 1,500-meters, 4x800-meter relay and distance medley relay and the outdoor 1,500-meters.

Gosztyla, who was named the America East Student Athlete of the Year in 2002, picked up the conference's most outstanding track performer award at the 2002 America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships after winning the 1,500-meters and the 4x800-meter relay while crossing second in the 800-meters.

Gosztyla graduated magna cum laude from New Hampshire in May 2001 with a bachelor's degree in nutritional sciences before earning her master's degree in exercise science summa cum laude from the school in May 2004.
