Cambridge, Mass. - An impressive first race of the cross country season has earned sophomore Jessica Hampson (Smithtown, N.Y.) the America East Conference Performer of the Week in women's cross country the league announced today. It was the first Performer of the Week award that Hampson has earned in her career and was also the first earned by a Stony Brook student-athlete for the 2007-08 season.

Hampson had an outstanding start to the cross country season, taking home the individual title at the Seawolf Invitational and helping Stony Brook to the team title as well. She finished the 4K course in a time of 15:35.31, taking control of the race early and easily winning by nearly 19 seconds. Her victory was key, as the Seawolves won the team title by just a point over Quinnipiac.
