Women's Cross Country Rises to No. 1 in Northeast Region; 12th in Nation
Oct. 7, 2008
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's women's cross country team has risen to the No. 1 spot in the Northeast Region and ranks 12th in the nation, according to the USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country Polls. Stony Brook's men's team also rose in the regional poll to 13th. Coming off an impressive fourth-place finish at the Notre Dame Invitational this past weekend, Stony Brook's women's cross country team leapfrogged Providence and Boston College in the Northeast Regional poll to take the No. 1 ranking. Having beaten eight nationally ranked teams, including then No. 10-ranked Illinois, the Seawolves were bumped up 18 spots in the national poll, all the way up to 12th. This is the highest Stony Brook cross country has ever been ranked nationally in the history of the program. After finishing 19th at the Paul Short Run, the men's team moved up two spots in the Northeast Regional poll to 13th, overtaking Binghamton by one spot and trailing New Hampshire, which sits at 12th. The Seawolves next appearance will be October 18th when they travel to Terre Haute, Ind. to compete in the Pre-NCAA Meet. Complete Women's National Poll
