East Carolina Defeats Stony Brook Baseball

March 3, 2006

Final Stats

Greenville, N.C. - The Stony Brook baseball team allowed East Carolina to score 6 unearned runs as the Seawolves lost to the Pirates, 12-0. The loss drops Stony Brook to 0-4 on the season and the Pirates improve to 9-3.

The Pirates got things going in the bottom of the second inning. Following a pair of walks and a fielder's choice, ECU had runners at first and third with two outs. Dale Mollenhauer ripped a double down the right-field line to score Jake Dean and Harrison Eldridge.

ECU would increase its lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fourth. The Pirates took advantage of two SBU errors to plate five unearned runs, capped by a Adam Witter two-run homerun. ECU would tack on four more runs in the fifth. Mollenhauer added another pair of RBI, as he delivered a two-run single and later scored on a SBU error.

The Seawolves proved to be their own worst enemy, stranding the bases loaded in the 2nd and the 5th innings, and allowing six unearned runs to cross the plate.

Andres Perez led Stony Brook at the plate, going 2-for-4 on the afternoon.

For ECU, Witter led the way with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate, driving in two and scoring two. Mollenhauer chipped in with two hits on the afternoon and a game-high four RBI.

Kris Bakey (0-1) shouldered the loss for Stony Brook, allowing seven runs, two earned, in four innings of work. Kurt Jung pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Seawolves, striking out three.

Three Pirates pitched in the shutout, with T. Hose (1-0) picking up the win. Hose struck out seven batters in six innings of work.

Stony Brook will continue its series with ECU on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 P.M.
