Hempstead, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team jumped out to a 5-1 lead on a three-run single by Justin Michalek in the second inning and did not look back, downing Hofstra 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Hempstead, N.Y. The Seawolves have now won four straight games to even their record at 5-5 on the season.

Stony Brook opened up the scoring in the first inning, taking a 2-0 advantage on an RBI single by Matt Devins, who later came around to score on a wild pitch and an error by Hofstra catcher Michael Walsh.

Hofstra cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI double by George Athanasopoulos, but the Seawolves responded in the top of the second with a two-out rally that was capped by Michalek's three-run single to score to Kevin Solano, Chris Sipp and Andrew Larsen and make the score 5-1.

Stony Brook used a pitcher by committee attitude the rest of the game as five relievers shut down the Hofstra bats, allowing just three hits the rest of the way. The Seawolves tacked on a run in the third on an RBI single by Nick Theoharis and finished the scoring in the ninth when Will Brumfield scored on a wild pitch by reliever Terrence Vogenberger.

Michalek went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored while freshman Brett Bernard went 3-for-4 for the Seawolves. Kurt Jung (1-0) was credited with the win.

Stony Brook is back in action on Saturday, March 13, when they travel to West Virginia University to play a double header beginning at 1:00.
