Seawolves Bash Way to 7-1 Victory Over Fordham

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Matt Restivo threw seven strong innings and Nick Theoharis went 3-for-4 with a solo home run to lead the Stony Brook baseball team to a 7-1 victory over Fordham on Wednesday afternoon. The game marked the first home contest for the Seawolves after 20 games on the road to start the year and improved their overall record to 8-13 this season. With the loss, Fordham falls to 10-11. The Seawolves struck early and often, scoring runs in four of the first five innings to build a 5-1 lead en route to a convincing victory over Fordham. Isidro Fortuna followed a Matt Devins RBI groundout in the first inning with a solo home run to give the Seawolves a 2-0 lead before the Seawolves tallied single runs in the second and third innings to build a 4-0 advantage. Fordham cut the lead to three with a run in the top of the fourth inning but the Seawolves answered in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Chris DiBiaso to build the lead back to four runs at 5-1. Theoharis cracked his first home run of the year, a solo shot, in the the seventh inning and Devins drove home Andrew Larsen with a sacrifice fly to end the scoring and give the Seawolves a 7-1 victory. Restivo (2-1) went seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks while striking out six to earn his second win of the season. Nick Abel allowed just one hit while striking out four in two innings of work to finish out the game.
Theoharis went 3-for-4 and Larsen finished 3-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Seawolves at the plate. Fordham starter Javier Martinez (2-3) suffered the loss after allowing three runs in two innings of work. The Seawolves are back in action on Friday when they take on New York Tech at 3 p.m. in Old Westbury, N.Y. |
