Baseball Evens Record With 7-2 Victory Over St. Francis
April 2, 2003 The Stony Brook Seawolves used five different pitchers to hold the St. Francis (N.Y.) to seven hits in its 7-2 defeat of the Terriers. The Seawolves tallied three runs through three innings which proved to be more than enough for the Stony Brook pitching staff. The Seawolves jumped on the board early when Lee Lipschutz crushed his second homerun of the season which brought home David Wood who singled earlier in the inning. The Brook would go on to add another run in the third when Mike Russo single home Rich Graham and another in the fourth when Ed Kull scored on a wild pitch. The Terriers rallied in the top of the fifth, scoring two with a Mike Molinini single to right. The Seawolves responded with a three-run bottom half that essentially sealed the win. Wood knocked home Matt Devins with a single and Kull provided two RBI when he brought home Wood and Russo with a single to left. Wood, Will Brumfield, Kris Bakey, Stephen Zydor and Kevin Fitzerald all saw action for the Seawolves, with Bakey receiving credit for the win. He is now 1-0 on the year. Louis Kass suffered the loss for the Terriers. Lipschutz finished the day 2-of-4 at the plate with 2 RBI as did Kull. Wood was also 2-of-4 with 1 RBI. Stony Brook is back in action tomorrow as they travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on the St. Peter's Peacocks. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start. |
