April 25, 2006

Box Score

Chris Cruz hit his second home run as a Seawolf as the Stony Brook baseball team cruised to a 12-1 win over St. Francis on Tuesday afternoon. The win is Stony Brook's fifth in a row as the Seawolves improve to 15-20 on the season.

St. Francis opened up the scoring, as the Terriers plated their only run in the bottom of the second inning. The Terriers hit three consecutive singles off of Stony Brook starter Kurt Jung to open the 1-0 lead.

Stony Brook responded in the top of the third when the Seawolves scored two runs off of an Isidro Fortuna single. The Seawolves continued to pour on the offense, as they plated two in the fourth off of Cruz's two-run homer and added another in the fifth when St. Francis walked in Stony Brook's fifth run of the game.

The Seawolves added four in the seventh and three in the eighth as Stony Brook rattled off 17 hits in the contest.

Jung (1-0) picked up the win for Stony Brook, striking out six batters in four innings of work. Matt Lyons, Stephen Zydor, Marc Brown and Nick Abel combined to throw five innings of shutout baseball to close the game.

Cruz led the Stony Brook offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four driven in, Fortuna was 2-for-3 with two RBI, Tom Pennino was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs driven in and a pair of runs scored and Kyle Traylor was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Seawolves return to action this weekend when they hit the road to take on Winthrop for a three-game set.
