Stony Brook, N.Y. - A seven-run eighth inning blew open the game as the Stony Brook baseball team defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) 12-3 on Tuesday afternoon at University Field. It was a record setting day for Seawolves senior shortstop Matt Devins, who roped a double in the first inning to become the Seawolves all-time hits leader with 227 for his career. The victory improves the Seawolves record to 16-21 this season while St. Francis falls to 6-24.

After scoring five second inning runs to take a 5-0 lead the Seawolves weren't able to mount anything offensively again until the eighth when they opened up the game with seven runs off St. Francis reliever Marc Lussier. Chris DiBiaso, pinch-hitter Jonathan Kalkau, Robert Leonard and Andrew Larsen opened the inning with four consecutive doubles to plate three runs and two errors by St. Francis shortstop Vin Tepedino allowed the Seawolves to score three unearned runs in the inning. The other run in the inning came on an RBI groundout by Chris Sipp.

The Seawolves opened the scoring in the second inning as Jon Pasieka drew a bases loaded walk to score Nick Theoharis with the first run of the game. Larsen followed with a two-run double of the wall in left, Sipp plated a run with another RBI groundout and an error by St. Francis first baseman Tom Pento allowed a run to score to give the Brook a 5-0 lead after two innings.

St. Francis chipped away at the SB lead with two runs on a single by David Noble in the top of the third inning. The score remained 5-2 until the sixth when Noble added a solo home run to pull the Terriers within two runs at 5-3 before the Seawolves put the game out of reach in the eighth.

Larsen went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored to lead the Seawolves at the plate, while Sipp added a 2-for-4 day with two RBI and a run.
