Game 1 Box Score

Game 2 Box Score

Albany, N.Y. - Sophomore Rob Dyer (Selden, N.Y.) went 2-for-3 with four RBI and senior Gary Novakowski (Prosepct, Conn,) hurled a five-hitter to lead the Stony Brook University baseball team to a 7-2 victory over the Albany Great Danes in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Varsity Field. David Kubiak threw a five-hitter to lead the Great Danes to a 4-2 win in game two. With the victory in game one the Seawolves will now host the host the 2008 America East Baseball Championship on May 22-24 at Farmingdale State College in Farmingdale, N.Y. The seeds for the four-team double-elimination tournament will be determined following the conclusion of the final regular season games on Sunday, May 18.

Dyer gave the Seawolves(31-23, 14-9 AE) an early lead in game one, driving in junior Brian Witkowski (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first. SBU added to the lead with three runs in the fifth highlighted by a run-scoring single from Dyer and a sacrifice fly from junior Steven Mazzurco (Selden, N.Y.).

The Seawolves put the game away in the sixth, getting a RBI single from junior Keith Fier (Armonk, N.Y.) and a two-run single from Dyer. Novakowski cruised to his team-high sixth victory of the season as he struck out seven while allowing just two unearned runs in his 7.0 innings of work. Cory Warrings took the loss for Albany, giving up four earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings.

Stony Brook took an early lead once again in game two as freshman Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) singled with one out in the first, moved to second on a groundout and then came home on two-out RBI single from Dyer. Albany took a 2-1 lead in the third on a Gary Pitcheralle RBI double and a Brendan Rowland sacrifice fly.

SBU evened the score at 2-all in the fifth on a Marshall RBI groundout but Albany got a two-out two-run single from Pete Eichner in the sixth to take a 4-2 lead it would not relinquish. Kubiak picked up the win for the Great Danes, allowing just the two runs and five hits in his 7.0 innings of work.

Dyer led the Seawolves offense in game two with two hits in three at-bats while junior Mike Errigo (Bayside, N.Y.) took the loss, giving up four runs in 5.2 innings.

The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
