El-Amin, Dougher Earn Weekly Conference Honors

Jan. 5, 2009

Cambridge, Mass. - Junior Muhammad El-Amin (Lansing, Mich.) and freshman Bryan Dougher (Scotch Plains, N.J.) were named America East Co-Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the conference office on Monday after leading the Stony Brook men's basketball team to victories over Air Force and defending conference champion UMBC last week. It is the first time a Seawolves player has earned the conference's Player of the Week honor since the 2004 season. It is the fifth time this season a member of the Seawolves has earned the Rookie of the Week honor, with Dougher earning it for the second time.

El-Amin scored 20 points in the Seawolves win over Air Force on Wednesday, going 8-for-16 from the field in addition to tying a season-high with six rebounds. He then scored 19 in SBU's victory over UMBC on Saturday night, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 3:43 remaining. The Lansing, Mich. native has scored 66 points on 55.6 percent (25-for-45) shooting over the past three games, all Seawolves victories, and is now ranked ninth in the conference in scoring (13.2 points per game).

Dougher scored a game-high 22 points, including 15 in the second half, against Air Force and then came back to score 19 against UMBC on Saturday. The Scotch Plains, N.J. native went 7-for-9 from the field against the Retrievers, including 5-for-6 from three-point range and has now scored in double-figures in nine straight games. He now ranks 10th in the conference in scoring (12.9 ppg) and second in 3-point percentage (.444), with those marks ranking first among America East freshman.
