Men's Basketball Adds Three Student-Athletes In Fall Signing Period

Nov. 29, 2007

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Seawolves beginning in the fall of 2008. Point guard Bryan Dougher (Scotch-Plains, N.J./Scotch-Plains Fanwood HS), guard Jonathan Moore (Cleveland, Ohio/Monroe CC) and forward Dallis Joyner (Norfolk, Va./Granby HS) will join the Seawolves basketball program.

"I am very, very excited about our newcomers. It's a very good class and we have addressed specific needs," Stony Brook men's basketball head coach Steve Pikiell said. "I think we have signed three very talented basketball players and three great young men that are excited about what we are building here at Stony Brook University."

Dougher averaged 19 points per game as a junior including 24 against the top-ranked high school team in the country, St. Patrick's, in the Union County tournament. The 6-0 point guard hit over 50 threes last season and with 970 career points, is closing in on the school record of 1,425. Dougher was an all-conference and all-area selection last season in addition to being named second team All-Union County.

"Brian is a scoring point guard that also makes everyone around him better," Scotch Plains head coach Dan Doherty said. "He is a very good three-point shooter, who is extremely strong and has played in one of best high school conferences in the country for the past three seasons."

Moore, a 6-0 point guard, played for head coach Jerry Burns at Monroe Community College last season, leading the Tribunes to a 30-4 record and the NJCAA Division II national championship game. The Cleveland, Ohio native averaged 12 points per game as a freshman, hit the game-winning three-pointer against Cincinnati State in the national semifinals and was a NJCAA Division II All-Tournament selection. Moore was also named a preseason First Team All-American this season and is averaging 14.5 points per game thus far through six games.

"Jon plays hard, is a great three-point shooter and will do whatever it takes to win games," Monroe Community College head coach Jerry Burns said. "But more importantly he is a quality person and a pleasure to coach. I've been coaching for 17 years and haven't seen too many come along like him."

Joyner, a 6-7 forward, averaged 14 points and 12 rebounds per game for head coach Teran Matthews at Granby High School last season. The Norfolk, Va. native is also a two-time all-conference selection.

"Dallis is a physical presence who player bigger than this size and is a monster on the glass," Granby head coach Teran Matthews said. "Stony Brook is getting a steal, Dallis is still developing and he is going to be a great great player by the time he leaves [Stony Brook]."
