Stony Brook Football Signs Mayberry

March 12, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Another name was added to the Stony Brook 2008 football recruiting class today when head coach Chuck Priore announced the signing of Phillip Mayberry (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

"We are excited about Phil," said Priore. "We had the opportunity to get in the process late with Phil and we think we found ourselves a player who fits who we are defensively from a personality standpoint. He is a very athletic inside linebacker who relies on quickness to make plays. He has a great personality for the game and I am excited about Phil being a part of this recruiting class."

Mayberry is a 5-11, 215-lb. addition to the Seawolf linebacking corps who played both linebacker and running back at Ottawa Hills High School in Michigan. Last season as a senior he made 107 tackles and picked up a pair of sacks while on offense he ran for 1,200 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. A three-time all-city and two-time all-area selection, he rushed for over 4,000 yards and scored 60 TDs over his four-year career.
