Stony Brook Football Holds First Spring Scrimmage
April 13, 2008
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Halfway through spring practice, the Stony Brook football team had its first scrimmage of the spring this weekend. Head coach Chuck Priore and his staff put the Seawolves through two hours of work in the first scrimmage in preparation for the 2008 season and the move to the Big South Conference play. "We have made a lot of changes schematically and technically to our program to adjust to some of the things we are anticipating seeing in our new schedule," remarked Priore after the scrimmage. "That takes some time to come along and the players have worked hard. We have gotten better, which is a crucial point, and we are fairly healthy at this point. "Today's scrimmage was positive. The first one is normally one where the players don't understand the speed of the game and it takes some time to get that accomplished. We didn't have a ton of offsides, the ball wasn't on the ground a lot; the kids played hard which is all you can ask for at this stage. We have a lot of work to do to get better. "Everything is tiered based on what we want to do each week. We have not done any goal-line short yardage yet; we haven't done any red-zone stuff either so we still have some situational things to put in over the rest of spring practice." Stony Brook will resume its spring workouts on Monday and will have another scrimmage next Saturday in LaValle Stadium.
