Football Holds Annual Red-White Spring Game

April 26, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's quarterbacks went a combined 22-29 for 192 yards and a touchdown to lead the Offense to a 28-11 win over the Defense in the Seawolves' annual Red-White scrimmage completing 2008 spring practice.

"I was pleased with the way our quarterbacks performed today," head coach Chuck Priore said. "When you replace a three-year starter in Josh Dudash, your other guys have to step up. I was happy with the way our defense played the run. Our guys will get back into the weight room and work on strength and agility and be ready for the first day of training camp on August 3rd."

Sophomore Dayne Hoffman (Ada, Mich.) went 9-13 for 105 yards and opened the game with a 52-yard pass to senior Lynell Suggs (Bronx, N.Y.). Senior Dan Sweeney (Niskayuna, N.Y.) went 7-10 for 42 yards and threw the only touchdown pass, a five-yard fade to Suggs in the left corner. Junior college transfer Matt Dardenne (Fremont, Calif.) was a perfect 6-6 for 45 yards.

Senior Brandon Mason (Phillipsburg, N.J.) took the majority of the handoffs, carrying the ball 11 times for 36 yards including a three-yard touchdown.

The senior duo of Suggs and Dwayne Eley (Bowie, Md.) caught 11 balls for 123 yards and one touchdown.

On the defensive end, sophomore Stephen Schwicke (East Patchogue, N.Y.) led the red team with eight tackles and sophomore Chris Richards (Quartz Hills, Calif.) had an interception.

Training camp for the Stony Brook football team begins on August 3rd. The Seawolves open the 2008 regular season at home against Colgate on August 30th at 6 pm. For tickets and more information, call 631-632-WOLF.
