Holiday Coach's Corner - A Note From The Desk Of Coach Priore
Dec. 21, 2007
Stony Brook, N.Y. - We would like to add a little Football treat to your already busy holiday festivities. So here is a little update from the football program. Since the completion of the 2007 season, 100% of our effort and energy has been focused on recruiting. NCAA rules allow our staff to be out for three weeks in December and another three weeks in January visiting prospects in their hometowns and on their campuses. By doing so, this allows us the very important opportunity to further evaluate each person and get to know them on a more personal level. This part of the recruiting process will continue up until the February 6th Signing Date. Again, per NCAA regulations we are not permitted to discuss potential prospects with Alumni, media or any other person outside of university Administration and Staff. That stated, we feel that we have made good progress in the recruiting process this far. We are in recruiting battles with the right schools for the right student-athletes. Our new association with the Big South Conference has really helped a great deal in promoting Stony Brook University as a football program and University. The tremendous steps we are taking are certainly being noticed nationally. Our staff is recruiting nationally for the best and bright potential student-athletes for football. We are recruiting, California, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, New England and beyond very heavily! The goals of this recruiting class are simple. First, we need to shore up some needs on the offensive side of the ball with junior college transfers that can and will have an immediate impact. Second, we need to supply the defensive side of the ball with young talented incoming freshmen. We are excited about the pool of candidates that we are currently involved with in terms of recruiting. This is an ongoing process of evaluation of both athletics and academics that will continue well into the coming months. Stay tuned!
The football banquet is being held on February 16th and is a great opportunity to show your support for the program and to help recognize those who have helped make Stony Brook Football the program it is today. We are accepting sponsorship opportunities and of student-athletes, tables and various aspects of the event. Please direct inquiries to Susan Abbott at Susan.Abbott@stonybrook.edu or via phone at 631-632-4647. Lastly, the holiday season allows us to step back and thank those who are special to us on both a personal and professional level. On behalf of our football coaching staff and student-athletes, please allow me to wish each of you a warm holiday season and very happy and healthy 2008. See you next year! As always, wear red and Go Seawolves! Warmly, |
