Hartford Scores Late To Hand Men's Lacrosse 9-8 Defeat

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Brian LaMastro scored six goals and goalie Rorke Greene made 22 saves to lift Hartford to a 9-8 win over Stony Brook in America East action Tuesday afternoon. The win improved the Hawks to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in conference play while Stony Brook slid to 1-2, 0-1 in conference action. After Steve Conlon put the Seawolves up 1-0 only 1:04 into the game, Hartford scored five of the next six goals, four of which came off the stick of LaMastro. With the score tied at one, LaMastro scored Hartford's next four goals, three of them coming in man-up situations. Trailing 6-2, goals by Jon Tompkins and Denis Scannell pulled Stony Brook within 6-4 at the break. Stony Brook took control in the third quarter, getting tallies from Kevin Pall, Eric Hatkewitz and Kyle Pearl to take a 7-6 advantage. LaMastro responded with two straight for the Hawks before Conlon answered for the Seawolves to send the game into the fourth quarter tied at eight. Greene was outstanding between the pipes for UH in the final period, turning aside eight Seawolves shots, several from point-blank range. Hartford took advantage of another man-up opportunity late in the game. LaMastro found a cutting Frank Fenimore in front of the Seawolves goal and Fenimore slipped it past Seawolves' goalie Phil Reed for the game-winning tally with 2:54 to go. LaMastro finished with six goals and an assist for seven points. Conlon led the way for SB on offense, collecting two goals and two assists. Reed made 12 saves in goal for Stony Brook.
