Box Score

STONY BROOK, NY - The University at Hartford scored eight straight goals bridging the second and third quarters to break open a tightly contested game and defeat Stony Brook, 14-8, Saturday afternoon at a rain-soaked Seawolves Field. It was the second straight win for the Hawks and third consecutive loss for the Seawolves.

Senior Tracey Kelusky put the Hawks ahead to stay with 3:09 remaining in the second quarter at 6-5 - the same margin the Hawks owned at intermission. Kelusky opened the third quarter with three straight goals, the last coming with 5:22 remaining in the third quarter that gave his team a 9-5 advantage. Frank Branca and Brian LaMastro added goals to close the third quarter.

The Seawolves answered as Denis Scannell and Kevin Pall opened the fourth quarter with goals to close the margin to 11-7, but Stony Brook could get no closer.

Brian LaMastro and Brian Bendig opened the game with back-to-back goals before the Seawolves scored four of the last five goals in the first quarter to take a 5-3 advantage. Jon Tompkins scored three times during that span and Jesse Foss added two assists before Hartford went on its run. Stony Brook falls to 0-3 on the year while Hartford improved to 2-0.

The Seawolves return to action next Saturday when they host defending national champion Virginia. Face-off is 1:00 p.m.
