Stony Brook Laxers Fall To No. 20 Navy, 14-6
March 24, 2001
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Eddie McKinnon and Greg Conklin each scored three goals to lead Navy to a 14-6 win in ECAC Lacrosse League action Saturday afternoon at Seawolves Field. Eight different Midshipmen scored goals as Navy improved to 3-3 overall, 2-2 ECAC while Stony Brook slipped to 1-4, 0-2 in conference play. Mike Sheedy got Navy on the board 1:42 into the game, taking a pass from Brendan Power and slipping it past SB's Tom Bushy for a 1-0 lead. Stony Brook's Kevin Pall answered seven minutes later when he received a beautiful cross-field pass from Matt Toner and whistled it by Jon Higdon to even the game at one. Navy's offense then went to work, scoring 10 of the next 11 goals to take control of the game. The Midshipmen held a 5-2 advantage after one quarter and built the lead to 9-2 at the break. Navy extended its lead to 11-2 early in the third before Stony Brook got its offense going again. SB's Tom Mazeika scored with 5:21 remaining in the third, breaking a scoreless drought of 25:08 for the Seawolves. Mike Dworczyk then scored his first as a Seawolf and Pall added his second of the game and SB had trimmed Navy's lead to 11-5. The Midshipmen quickly responded in the fourth quarter on goals from McKinnon and Nick Lockwood to thwart any chance of a Stony Brook comeback. Navy's McKinnon finished with three goals and an assist while freshman Dave Pittard also totaled four points with a pair of goals and two assists. Pall lead the way for Stony Brook with two goals and Jesse Foss had a pair of assists in a losing effort. Jon Higdon made five saves for Navy. Steve Armsworthy came on in relief of Tom Bushy to make 10 stops for the Seawolves. Stony Brook is next in action when they travel to Lafayette on March 28. Face-off is 3:30 p.m.
