Stony Brook, N.Y. - Jon Tompkins and Kevin Pall each had two goals while Steve Armsworthy made 13 saves to lead Stony Brook past Butler, 6-5, Sunday afternoon at Seawolves Field. It was the second straight win for the Seawolves who improve to 3-4.

Stony Brook fell behind 1-0 only 1:37 into the game when Scott Walker scored off a feed from Ryan Ward. That would be Butler's only lead of the game as Tompkins evened the score at one at 8:31 of the first and Pall put the Seawolves ahead four minutes later.

Denis Scannell and Pall added goals in the second quarter as Stony Brook built a 4-3 lead at the break. Armsworthy then took over, turning aside several Butler shots early in the third quarter to preserve the 4-3 advantage before Tompkins' second goal of the game with 4:19 remaining in the third extended the lead to 5-3.

Butler's Walker cut the lead to 5-4 21 seconds into the fourth quarter but Armsworthy again came up big in the Stony Brook goal and the Bulldogs could not get the equalizer. Jesse Foss put SB up by two again at the 11:03 mark with an extra-man goal on an assist from Tompkins.

Butler did not go quietly as Garett Rosecrans scored with 57 seconds remaining to slice SB's lead to 6-5. The Bulldogs won the ensuing faceoff and set up for the game-tying goal but Ward's shot with just over 20 seconds remaining sailed wide of the net and Armsworthy beat Butler to the endline to gain possession for Stony Brook.

The Seawolves ran out the clock to hold on for their third win of the year. Butler falls to 3-4. Brendan Winkler made 13 saves for the Bulldogs. Walker finished with two goals on the afternoon.

Stony Brook in back in action next Saturday when it travels to No. 3 Georgetown. Face-off is 1:00 p.m.
