Men's Lacrosse Takes A Detour; Falls To No. 8 Georgetown 11-8

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown men's lacrosse team jumped out to a big lead early in the game and held on to defeat Stony Brook, 11-8. Steve Dusseau (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) led the Hoyas with three goals while three other players had two goals for GU. With the win, the eighth-ranked Hoyas improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the ECAC. It was the 15th-straight home win for GU. Stony Brook fell to 3-5 overall and 0-3 in ECAC play. The Hoyas dominated play in the first half and scored the first four goals of the game. Mike Henehan (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy), Jamie Sharpe (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./Comsewogue) and Dusseau each scored in the first period, while Mike Hammer (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) opened the scoring in period two. Stony Brook's Kevin Pall (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) got the Seawolves on the board at the 3:37 mark of the second quarter. It was the first of four goals on the day by Pall. GU responded with goals from Mike Kanach (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and Dusseau as GU led at the half, 6-1. The Hoyas outshot the Seawolves in the half, 30-8. In the third quarter, GU's Scott Doyle (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) scored a pair of goals sandwiched around two Seawolves goals by Pall and Tris Gillen. Dusseau added his second of the game as the Hoyas increased their lead to 9-3. Each team added another tally to make the score 10-4 after three periods. Stony Brook made its run in the fourth quarter. The Seawolves offense had 14 shots in the period and scored four-straight goals to cut the Georgetown lead to 10-8 with 2:18 left in the contest. However, GU iced the game when Sharpe picked up a loose ball after a long clearing pass and beat Seawolves' goalie Steve Armsworthy with just over a minute to play to make the score 11-8. GU goalkeeper Scott Schroder (Summit, N.J./Summit) made 11 saves in recording his seventh win of the year. Armsworthy had 17 saves for Stony Brook.
