Men's Lacrosse Surges Past Albany, 18-8

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook used a seven-goal third quarter to break open a 4-4 game en route to a convincing 18-8 win over Albany in a non-conference lacrosse matchup at Seawolves Field Saturday afternoon. With the win, Stony Brook improves to 4-6 on the year while Albany drops to 1-7. After Albany's Alan Beach tied the game at four at 13:29 of the third quarter, Stony Brook reeled off seven straight goals to take an 11-4 advantage. The seven-goal barrage was ignited by Kevin Pall who took a pass from Dennis Nafte off the face-off and found the net to give SB a 5-4 lead. Stony Brook then received two more goals from Pall, a pair from Matt Campolettano and single tallies from Tris Gillen and Jon Tompkins in the decisive third quarter. Pall finished with four goals and an assist on the afternoon to record his seventh hat trick of the season and tenth multiple-goal game of 2001. He entered the game ranked seventh in the nation in goals scored, he now has 34 for the year which equals his total from last season. Tompkins notched a hat trick with three goals and an assist while Tris Gillen and Jesse Foss each totaled four points with two goals and two assists. Eric Hatkewitz added his first career goal in the second quarter. Stony Brook's Steve Armsworthy made 14 saves in three quarters of action to earn his third win of the season. Albany was led by Jon Smith who notched two goals while goalie Mike Arnone made 13 saves in net for the Great Danes. Stony Brook is back in action next Saturday when it travels to Quinnipiac to take on the Braves. Face-off is 12:30 p.m.
