Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels tallied the first nine goals of the game en route to a 13-7 win over Stony Brook in men's lacrosse action Wednesday night at LaValle Stadium. Jed Prossner (3g, 1a) and Austin Garrison (2g, 2a) each recorded four points to pace the Carolina attack as the Tar Heels snapped a four-game losing streak to improve to 6-6. The loss dropped Stony Brook to 4-9.

Garrison struck early for UNC, putting the visitors up 1-0 at the 14:13 mark of the first quarter and igniting a 9-0 run that featured three Prossner goals. Stony Brook's Kevin Shea scored at 7:18 of the second to get SBU on the board and tallied his second of the game just over five minutes later to trim the UNC lead to 9-2 at the break.

Lance Zimmerman and Kyle Bell notched goals in the early portion of the third quarter to put UNC comfortably ahead 11-2. The Seawolves tried to mount a rally and closed to within 11-5 after a Jason Cappadoro goal at 11:06 of the final quarter.

The two teams proceeded to swap the final four goals of the game for the 13-7 final.

Cappadoro (2g, 1a) and George LaFlare (1g, 2a) paced the SBU attack with three points apiece. Errol Wilson made six saves between the pipes in a losing cause. Paul Spellman stopped 12 Stony Brook shots to earn his sixth win of the year.
