The Seawolves and Albany square off in an America East battle at LaValle Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves are coming off a 9-4 win against Vermont last weekend in their America East opener and are currently ranked 18th in the country.
Last Time Out
Outscoring Vermont 5-1 in the second half, the No. 19 Stony Brook University men's lacrosse team shut down Vermont by a score of 9-4 on Saturday afternoon in America East action. The Seawolves defense clamped down in the second half as they allowed just one goal off seven Vermont shots. Sean Chamberlain was outstanding in the game as he had a career-best five points off two goals and three assists. Ryan Hughes had a pair of goals and an assist while Larry Cerasi, Bobby Trenkle, and Bo Tripodi all finished with a goal and an assist. Brendan Callahan made fives saves in the cage to preserve the win.
About Albany
The Great Danes enter Saturday's game with a 8-0 record and is ranked second in the country in the USILA Poll. The Great Danes are coming off a 13-9 win over UMBC in their conference opener. Frank Resartitis has been named the America East Player of the Week four times and leads the time with 34 points off 20 goals and 14 assists. Merrick Thomson has also scored 20 goals for the Great Danes this year. Goalie Brett Queener has a 8.94 GAA and has recorded a goal and an assist this year.
Versus The Great Danes
The Great Danes lead the all-time series, 8-6, with the two schools splitting a pair of meetings last season. In the regular season matchup on April 8, Rhys Duch scored five goals and Bo Tripodi recorded the hat trick to lead the men's lacrosse team to a 13-11 win over Albany. The win was first over the Great Danes since 2002. The teams almost met up in the semifinals of the America East Tournament and the Seawolves fell 14-13 in an overtime thriller to the Great Danes on May 5. The Seawolves rallied from a three-goal deficit on three occasions in the second half in what amounted to the third highest scoring game in tournament history. Hughes sent the game into overtime as he converted a Jason Cappadoro pass with five seconds left in regulation. Hughes finished with a career-high four goals while Bo Tripodi notched three goals and two assists. Cappadoro had two goals and three assists and Adam Marksberry added two goals. Brendan Callahan made 11 saves.
Marching On
The Seawolves won all five games that they played in March, the first time the Seawolves have gone undefeated in March since 1989. With a win against the Great Danes, the Seawolves would match their longest winning streak in 16 years.
In The Ranks
Several Seawolves are ranked in the Top 25 nationally in several categories. Brendan Callahan ranks 5th in the country in save percentage (63%), Jimmy Astea ranks 11th in ground balls (5.8) and 15th in face-off percentage (57%).Bo Tripodi ranks 22nd in the county in goals per game (2.2), while Callahan also ranks 25th in goals against average with 8.5 per game. As a team, SB has the fifth best man-up unit in the country with a 45.8%.
Sean's Career-Day
Sean Chamberlain had a career-day against Vermont as he tallied two goals and three assists against the Catamounts. The senior captain ranks third on the team in points with 14 points off eight goals and six assists. He also has tallied a team-best three man-up goals.
First Liners
The Seawolves first midfield and first attack have tallied the majority of goals this season. The attack line of Chamberlain, Trenkle, and Tripodi have tallied 28 goals and netted 44 points. The midfield line of Hughes, Adams, and Cerasi have 22 goals and 38 points. The two lines have combined for 82% of the team's goals and 84% of the team's points.
