Men's Lacrosse Announces 2009 Recruiting Class
Sept. 18, 2008
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's men's lacrosse program has added a group of 15 players to its roster for the 2009 season announced head coach Rick Sowell. The group joins six others who joined the program in the early signing period last November, giving the Seawolves a total recruiting class size of 21. "I am very pleased with the overall talent of our new additions," remarked Sowell. "Some will have an immediate impact in our program, while others, we believe, have the potential to develop into quality players. This group, along with a strong core of returning players has me excited about our future." Robert Campbell (Delta, British Columbia) was a member of the Canadian U-19 national team that finished second at the world championships this past summer. A midfielder, he was the leading scorer for the Delta Insiders of the BC Junior A League. He also played football for the University of British Columbia as a running back. Thomas Feicco (St. Charles, Ill.) is an attackman that played last year at Mercyhurst College. He was a high school All-American at St. Charles North in Illinois after scoring 62 goals as a senior. Three local transfers are Charlie Paar (Huntington, N.Y.), Paul Randazzo (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Michael Mizvesky (Northport, N.Y.). A goalie, Paar was named the defensive MVP of the National Junior College Men's Lacrosse Championship in 2008 when he helped Nassau Community College to the national title by making 20 saves. An NJCAA first team All-American, he was high school All-American as well at Huntington High School where he helped the squad to a pair of New York state championships. Randazzo played midfield at Farmingdale State for the past two years, scoring a total of 29 goals there while picking up 46 ground balls. Mizvesky attended the United States Naval Academy last season but did not appear in a game for the Midshipmen. He was an All-Suffolk County defender in 2006 for Northport High School.
Three freshmen, one from the Midwest and two from Canada, will also be joining the Seawolves for the 2009 season. Greg Miceli (King City, Ontario), another member of the Canadian U-19 team, played last season at Culver Military Academy in Indiana where he was a first team all-state and All-America selection as a defender. An attackman, Kyle Belton (Langley, British Columbia) started for the New Westminster Salmonbellies of the BC Junior A League for whom he was a second team all-star after scoring 31 goals in the regular season in 2008. Graham Adams (Birmingham, Mich.), an attackman, will come to Stony Brook from lacrosse powerhouse Birmingham Brother Rice in Michigan. An All-American and first team all-state selection there, he scored a pair of goals in the state championship game to help the Warriors to their sixth consecutive state title. Also joining the Seawolves for the 2009 season will be six more freshmen - Robert Gibson (New Hampton, N.Y./Defense), an all-section player at Minisink Valley High School that also played in the in 2008 US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase; Shane Ferguson (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Attack), the all-time leading scorer at his high school, an all-league and all-section selection as a senior and a 2007 member of the Hudson Valley Empire State Team; Savaughn Greene (White Plains, N.Y./Defense), a second team All-Westchester County selection; Kyle Smith (Rockville Center, N.Y./Attack), an all-county pick; Mike Begg (Stratford, Conn./Attack) and all-state and all-conference honoree that was also picked to play in the Senior All-Star game; Steve Kaufman (Port Washington, N.Y./Defense); and Dan McHale (Baldwin, N.Y./Goal). This group joins the previous group of six that committed to Stony Brook last fall. Dermott Kramer (Freeport, N.Y./Midfield); Pat Coffey (Huntington, N.Y./Defense); Jared LeVerne (Syosset, N.Y./Midfield); Josh Russell (Denver, Colo./Midfield), a 2008 first team all-state pick; Jack Hewitt (Eden Prairie, Minn./Midfield), an All-American and first team all-state selection as a senior; and Paul Murphy (Baldwin, N.Y./Midfield). A familiar face will also be returning to Stony Brook for the 2009 season.
