Stony Brook Names Men's Lacrosse Captains for 2009 Season

Oct. 22, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's men's lacrosse team has named its captains for the 2009 season head coach Rick Sowell has announced. Senior Nick Maturro (West Islip, N.Y.), junior Steven Waldeck (Levittown, N.Y.) and sophomore Kevin Crowley (New Westminster, British Columbia) will be the Seawolves' captains when the team begins play next spring.

"Though each personality is different, they share outstanding work ethics, are leaders by example both on and off the field, and have great respect from both the coaching staff and their fellow team members," said Sowell. "Our program is in good hands with these young men leading the way!"

Maturro has been a key part of the Stony Brook defense for the past three years. A starter last season, he finished fifth on the team in ground balls (29). A fellow defender, Waldeck was a first team All-America East selection last season after leading the team in ground balls (53) and caused turnovers (13). A two-year starter, he was an America East All-Rookie selection in 2007.

Crowley had a standout first season at Stony Brook in 2008, finishing second on the team in points (48) on 22 goals and 26 assists. A first team All-America East selection, he was also an America East All-Rookie pick and finished 10th in the nation in assists per game at 1.86.
