Boston, Mass. - Jamie Gaither scored the only goal of the game in the 12th minute and Dan Ferrin pitched a six-save shutout in leading Stony Brook (1-0) to a 1-0 win over Boston College (0-1) Friday afternoon. It was the first win in a season opener in five years for Stony Brook, who downed Plattsburgh by the same score in 1994.

Gaither scored off the rebound of an initial shot by Everett Watts at the 11:53 mark and the Seawolves held on for the victory. Dan Ferrin made his first collegiate start in net for Stony Brook and made six saves to get the win. The Eagles held an 18-14 shots advantage.

The Eagles got off several shots in the second half, but could not connect. Adam Pfeifer took a shot from the top of the box in the 63rd minute that got by Ferrin, but defenseman Jermaine Wright was there to make the save and keep the Eagles at bay.

It was a penalty-marred game as both teams were whistled for four yellow cards. The Seawolves committed 20 fouls on the day while the Eagles committed 15.

Stony Brook opens the home portion of its schedule on Wednesday against St. Peter's at 4:00 p.m.
