Box Score

Fairfield, Conn. - The men's soccer team recorded its third straight shutout to open the 2000 season as the Seawolves (3-0) defeated Sacred Heart (0-3-1) 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior forward Everett Watts opened the scoring in the 12th minute, taking a pass from junior defender Kenyatta Montgomery and heading it into the upper right corner of the net past Pioneer keeper Gustavo Reaes.

Despite numerous shots at the goal, the Seawolves were unable to capitalize for much of the second half. After Pioneer Jorge DeSousa was ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct in the 80th minute, the Seawolves were able to take advantage of the man-up opportunity. At the 83:29 mark, junior midfielder Jamie Gaither took a cross from junior forward Hector Dillon and sent it past Reaes to score his third goal of the year and seal the win for Stony Brook.

With the win, the Seawolves post their third shutout in as many games.

Stony Brook returns to action on Sunday as the Seawolves host Howard at 4 p.m. Sunday also serves as Stony Brook Men's Soccer Alumni Day, with the alumni game taking place at 2 p.m.
