Palacio's Two Goals Leads Men's Soccer to 4-1 Win Over Marist

Sept. 25, 2007

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Michael Palacio (Long Beach, N.Y.) scored his third and fourth goals off the season and Sebastian Villa (Forest Hills, N.Y.) added his first goal as the Stony Brook men's soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Marist at LaValle Stadium on Tuesday night. Stony Brook outshot Marist 27-13 in the victory and ups its record to 5-3-0. Marist is 2-4-1.

Stony Brook set the pace in the early going taking six shots at Marist keeper Daniel Owens. Mladen Ramic (Belgrade, Serbia) would have the first opportunity to score when his header attempt off a corner kick from Petar Rakovic (Kragujevac, Serbia) went just high.

Just two minutes later, Stony Brook would score its first goal of the game. A cross from Rakovic into the box proved fruitful as Palacio headed in his first goal of the game and third of the season.

After Corey Perkins tied it for Marist in the 29th minute, Villa would put the Seawolves ahead for good. Tamer Mohamed (Queens, N.Y.), in just his second game since returning to the team, served a left-footer into the box. Villa came in streaking and headed the ball past Owens for a 2-0 advantage.

Stony Brook's defense also came up big today, none bigger than in the 41st minute. A misplay by Stony Brook keeper Rich Skoblicki (North Patchogue, N.Y.) allowed Marist a free kick from just six yards out. Setting up a wall, the Seawolves savvy defense would block two shots from point blank range.

The Seawolves would add two more tallies late in the second half. Off a save, Palacio gathered the ball and blasted it into the back of the net for a comfortable 3-1 advantage. Mark Secko (Shoreham, N.Y.) scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Maurice Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica) in the 87th minute.

Stony Brook is back at home with a match against William & Mary. Kick-off against the Tribe is scheduled for 7 pm.
