Men's Soccer Holds On For 2-1 Win Over William & Mary
Sept. 29, 2007
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Mahamadou Simpara's (Bamako, Mali) goal just two minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner as the Stony Brook men's soccer defeated William & Mary, 2-0, to avenge last season's 2-0 loss to the Tribe in Williamsburg. Stony Brook has won six of its last seven games and improves to 6-3-0. William & Mary is 3-4-2. The Tribe scored the first goal of the game in the third minute but Seawolves keeper Dawid Ditrich (Gdansk, Poland) would make two point-blank saves in the 9th and 12th minute, respectively. After coming off the bench in the 19th minute, Maurice Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica) would make an immediate impact. Simpara dribbled the ball past a defender and crossed it into the box. Brown took the cross and shot it off a defender and into the goal, tying the score at one. Just three minutes later, Brown would have an opportunity to score again. Attacking the goal, Brown's shot went off the post and out of bounds. In the 47th minute, Mihailo Pavlisin (Subotica, Serbia) sent a cross into the box. Mark Secko (Shoreham, N.Y.) took it out of the air and passed it to Simpara. Simpara took the ball and scored for the 2-1 advantage. Ditrich made three saves for his fifth victory of the season. Tribe keeper Andrew McAdams made seven saves.
Stony Brook travels to Maryland to face the #18 Terrapins on Tuesday evening. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. |
