Men's Soccer Shuts out New Hampshire 1-0 In Season Finale

Nov. 3, 2002

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Kevin Cameron made the most of his Senior Day against New Hampshire, scoring the gamewinning goal as the Seawolves earned a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon at University Field. The win snapped New Hampshire's six-game unbeaten streak, and the Wildcats suffered their first America East loss since their conference opener.

The highly competitive game saw several opportunities for both teams, but neither capitalized until just over 12 minutes remained in the contest. Sophomore Keegan Pitter's cross into the box found Cameron, who got off an acrobatic shot in mid-air. The ball curved over UNH goalkeeper Mike Vignola's head and into the upper left corner of the net for the 1-0 edge.

However, the Wildcats (10-4-2, 4-2-2 America East) made things interesting in the final six minutes. Junior Nicola Chicco collected the ball in the box after a Wildcat corner kick, but his potential equalizer banged off the crossbar. New Hampshire earned another corner kick just seconds later, but after a dangerous jumble right in front of the goal, the Seawolves managed to clear the ball and hold off New Hampshire for the 1-0 victory.

The goal marked the first of the season for Cameron and fifth in his career.

Both teams totaled 13 shots on the afternoon, with New Hampshire recording four corner kicks to Stony Brook's three.

Seawolves goalkeeper Dan Ferrin made six saves en route to his third shutout of the season and 15th in his career. Vignola finished with five stops.

Stony Brook concludes the 2002 season with a 3-13-1 overall record, 2-5 in the America East.
