Men's Soccer Ends Regular Season With 1-0 Loss to Binghamton

Nov. 3, 2007

Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Binghamton's Barry Neville scored a goal off a free kick in the 42nd minute as the Bearcats topped the Stony Brook men's soccer team, 1-0 in America East conference action. With the loss, Stony Brook is 9-7-3, 3-4-1. Binghamton is 13-5-0, 5-3-0.

Stony Brook had the first quality scoring chance in the game. In the first half, after a Mahamadou Simpara (Bamako, Mali) bicycle kick sent the ball back into the box, Oscar Leis (Ozone Park, N.Y.) gathered the ball, spun around and took a shot. Binghamton keeper Jason Stenta made a diving save to his left to keep the game scoreless.

After a foul on Stony Brook, Neville had a free kick from the left side of the pitch about 25 yards out. The ball went past the left side of Stony Brook keeper Dawid Ditrich (Gdansk, Poland) to put Binghamton up 1-0.

The Seawolves had two more scoring opportunities late in the game. In the 68th minute, Petar Rakovic (Kragujevac, Serbia) had a free kick that Stenta punched over the crossbar and out of bounds. Yahaya Musa (Elmont, N.Y.) had a shot attempt in the 88th minute but that was saved.

Ditrich made six saves in goal and Stenta made nine.
