June 10, 2009
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Head Coach Cesar Markovic has announced that eight more student-athletes will join the men's soccer team in time for 2009. Danny Bonomini (Holbrook, N.Y.), Christian Galindo (Brentwood, N.Y.), Berian Gobeil (Montreal, Quebec), Christian Molinar (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Stefan Manz (Bronx, N.Y.), Kyle Schlesinger (Selden, N.Y.), Serigne Sylla (New York, N.Y.) and Peter Touros (Astoria, N.Y.) join Raphael Abreu (New York, N.Y.), Wilber Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.), Antonio Crespi (North Babylon, N.Y.) and Cristian Quevedo (Smithtown, N.Y.), who signed earlier. One of two goalkeepers brought in by Markovic, Bonomini played soccer at nearby Sachem East High School. A two-year letterwinner who also served as team captain as a senior, he was a member of Long Island's Empire State team. A member of the New York State Class AA championship at Brentwood High School as a senior, Galindo served as team captain on the top-ranked team in the nation, earning all-league honors in the process. Galindo plays academy soccer for Albertson U-17/18. A regional team player for Quebec, Gobeil was a Canadian College Athletic Association tournament all-star en route to the national title for Champlain College in 2007. He earned the team's Golden Ball and Golden Shoe that year as well. An all-league and all-state selection for Bay Shore High School, Molinar scored six goals as a three-year member of the Marauders' defense. Joining Bonomini in competition for the goalkeeping job, Manz is a two-sport athlete, competing in soccer and baseball for Fordham Prep. A captain his senior year, he had a .447 GAA, which ranked second in New York State, and nine shutouts to his credit. A two-time all-league and all-county selection for Newfield High School, Schlesinger finished his senior season with 10 goals and nine assists after a 15 goal-12 assist junior season. A native of Senegal, Sylla attended Martin Luther King Jr. High School prior to playing a season at SUNY-Cobleskill. As a high school player, Sylla was part of two PSAL championships and a national ranking of fourth in 2007. At Cobleskill, he was a third team all-conference selection. Touros is a four-year letterwinner for Long Island City High School, earning all-city honors after scoring 16 goals to go along with 12 assists. He also plays for the New York Red Bulls U-17/18.
Stony Brook opens the 2009 season at home with a match against Long Island rival Hofstra on September 1 at 7 pm. |
