Palacio, Musa Named To America East First Team; Simpara, Brown, Secko and Rakovic Also Honored

Cambridge, Mass. - Senior midfielder Michael Palacio (Long Beach, N.Y.) and senior defenseman Yahaya Musa (Elmont, N.Y.) were named to the America East first team, the conference announced on Thursday. Mahamadou Simpara (Bamako, Mali) was named to the second team and Maurice Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica) and Mark Secko (Shoreham, N.Y.) were each named to the all rookie team. Petar Rakovic (Kragujevac, Serbia) was named to the All-Academic team.

Palacio, a three time all-conference first team selection, was tied for the team lead in goals with four and led the team in assists with six and points with 14.

Musa has been a mainstay in the Seawolves defense for the last three seasons, earning All-America East first team honors the last two. The Long Island native also played in 78 career games, starting 60

Simpara had a tremendous season switching from the midfield to defense. This season he scored four goals including two game-winners.

Brown scored three goals for the Seawolves in his rookie season often sparking the team off the bench. The Jamaica native had three tallies on just 15 shots.

Secko made an immediate impact for Stony Brook, playing in all 19 games as a freshman. Making 17 starts, the Long Island native had a goal and an assist.

A transfer from St. John's, Rakovic provided solid leadership in his inaugural season at Stony Brook. Starting each game he played in, Rakovic had two goals and two assists.
 

 

The men's soccer team finished the season with a 9-7-3 record.
