Dave Alexander enters his 13th season as head coach of the Stony Brook University men's swimming program and 29th season as head coach of the Stony Brook University women's swimming team. Alexander is the only coach the women's program has ever had. In the 2006-07 America East Championships, Alexander led Julian Acevedo and Jon Sigurosson to individual titles while leading the men's team to a third place finish and the women's team to a sixth place finish. The swimming and diving team continued to build on its success in the 2005-06 season, becoming a force in America East competition and breaking numerous school records. The men finished third at the America East Championships for the third straight year and finished with a 7-2 regular season record. The women's team finished fifth at the America East Championships, swimming to a 6-4 regular season record. Alexander and his staff were named 2005-2006 America East Swimming and Diving Coaching Staff of the Year. During his career, more than 100 of Alexander's women swimmers have earned All-Metropolitan Conference accolades, four were named All-American and more than 20 have competed in the NCAA National Championships. As a team, they have six Metropolitan Conference Swimming and Diving Championships to their credit. Alexander enjoyed his most outstanding season with the men's program in 1998-99, guiding the Seawolves to an 11-6 mark, fresh off the program's first MET Conference Championship crown in 1997-98. Alexander has been named the Metropolitan Conference's Division I/II Men's Coach of the Year three times--in 1991, 1996 and 1998. He was named MET Women's Swimming and Diving Coach of the Year by his peers in 1991. Alexander also has earned Stony Brook University Women's Athletics Coach of the Year honors on two occasions. A 1970 graduate of SUNY-New Paltz, Alexander earned his master's degree from Adelphi University in 1974. Alexander has four daughters, Allison, Erin, Kate and Molly, and lives in Smithtown with his wife, Moira. |
