Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Sweep Iona and St. Francis

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Shirlee Manoogian took first in the 1000 freestyle, in a time of 10:43.13 breaking her own school record of 10:48.37, and helping the Seawolves sweep both Iona College and St. Francis College in a Monday night tri-meet at the University Pool.

Stony Brook beat Iona on the women's side with a score of 70-43 and defeated St. Francis, 92-20. The men beat out Iona, 64-49 and St. Francis, 94-8.

The women's 200 medley relay of Kim Harris, Allison DeSanti, Alison Porteus and Courtney Teague set the tone for the Seawolves, winning the first event with a time of 1:53.14. Harris also touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 24.66. DeSanti took first in the 200 IM, finishing in a time of 2:17.70. Porteus also finished first in the 100 breaststroke. Jamie Bevilacqua helped herself to a first place finish in the 200 freestyle, followed in second by teammate, Starlyn Rupinski, who touched the wall first in the 200 butterfly.
 

 

Hailey Lewandowski swept the women's diving events for the Seawolves and was followed in second in the 3-meter event by teammate, Claire Blechman.

On the men's side, Nathan French, Frank Schursky, Alexei Smirnov and Dan Piastuck got the Seawolves off to a good start in the 200 medley relay, winning the race in a time of 1:40.19. Jeffrey Chu continued his successful season in the University Pool with two first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM events.

Vladimir Sreckovic was the first place finisher in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.78. Ted Freeborn beat the Gaels and the Terriers to the wall in the 50 freestyle, taking a first place time of 21.55.

The Seawolves are back in action on December 4, for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet with the Terriers of Boston
