Men's Swimming & Diving Picked Fourth in Preseason Poll; Women Seventh

Oct. 9, 2008

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook University's men's swimming and diving team is projected to finish fourth in the America East conference, according to league's preseason head coaches' poll. The women's team has been picked to finish seventh.

Following a fourth-place finish at last year's America East Championships, the men's swimming & diving team has a strong corps of returnees. Sophomore Lukasz Ochmanski (Lodz, Poland), who won two individual championships last spring, returns to the pool this year looking to improve upon the four school-records he set last season. Fellow record-holder, senior Julian Acevedo (Long Island City, N.Y.) is the Seawolves top diver and has his eyes on winning his first America East titles in the one and three-meter dives.

A young but talented women's team has been picked to finish seventh in the conference. The Seawolves have a loaded sophomore class, led by Anastasiya Kiryushkina (Moscow, Russia), Maja Gudelj (Split, Croatia) and Adrienne Policht (Mississauga, Canada). Coupled with a talented incoming class, including freshmen Darcy Heuser (Centerville, Ohio) and Kelsey Stranc (Chicago, Ill.), Stony Brook's women's team could surprise people.

The Seawolves have three more non-conference meets before kicking off their America East schedule at Maine on November 8th.
