Men's Tennis Evens Spring Record With Win Over UConn
Feb. 9, 2008
West Point, N.Y. - Stony Brook's men's tennis team evened its spring record at 1-1 yesterday when it blanked Connecticut in matches that were played at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center in West Point, New York. Freshman Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) and junior Yousseff Fassi-Fehri (Fes, Morocco) each picked up a pair of wins to help the Seawolves to the victory. Rummel and Fassi-Fehri set the tone for the match when they paired up at No. 1 doubles and blanked the tandem of Joe Goldstein and Ben Schueler, 8-0. Junior Juan Carlos Cotto (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and freshman Jon Allen (Winchester, England) completed the doubles point for SBU when the duo won at No. 3 doubles by an 8-2 score. No. 2 doubles proved to be the only time during the match that UConn could manage a win where its team scored an 8-6 win. Stony Brook had no problems when it came to singles play where it won all six matches in straight sets. Sophomore Jon Epstein (Silver Spring, Md.) dropped just three games in his win at No. 4 singles, the fewest games surrendered by a Seawolf on the day. Rummel picked up his singles win at the top flight, scoring a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Goldstein while Fassi-Fehri won his match at No. 3 singles over Joey Michaels by a 6-2, 6-2 score. Stony Brook will not play again until Saturday, February 23 when it will be at Dartmouth for a Noon non-conference match. Stony Brook 7, Connecticut 0 Doubles #1 Rummel/Fassi-Fehri (Stony Brook) def.
