March 1, 2008
Boston, Mass. - Stony Brook's men's tennis team made it three in-a-row on Saturday as it took on its first America East opponent of the season, coming away with a 6-1 win at Boston University. Sophomore Alex Markovich (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and freshman Artem Baradach (Minsk, Belarus) each picked up a pair of wins for the Seawolves. Boston University picked up its only point of the day in doubles action where it won two of the three matches. Baradach and Markovich teamed up at the No. 2 position to give Stony Brook its doubles win, taking a close 9-7 decision over Miron Nissim and Phil DeMeo. Stony Brook had little trouble in the singles matches, however, sweeping all six to take the match handily. The Seawolves scored straight sets wins in each of the first four flights, with freshman Ivan Rummel (Budapest, Hungary) dropping just two games on his way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2. Baradach picked up his second win of the day in the No. 1 flight where he downed Jeff Chudacoff, 6-0, 6-4. Markovich scored his singles win at No. 5 where he took an 8-1 decision over DeMeo. Junior Yousseff Fassi-Fehri (Fes, Morocco) was also solid, taking the No. 3 match 6-3, 6-4.
